Myzomela sanguinolenta
A pair of these birds often pay Wombolly a visit when the Bottlebrushes are in bloom and sometimes with an immature in tow. The male blends in nicely with his scarlet head, breast and back, while the female is nicely camouflaged in her own quiet way. The immature male begins with a smudge of red around his face and gradually his feathers change to become as spectacular as his dad. Click on images to enlarge.
